FAQ
All of our products including our Solly Wraps, Swaddles, Crib Sheets, Sleep Sets, Soft Carriers, and Solly Dollies are made with certified TENCEL™ Modal, a fabric crafted from beech wood trees in Austria. Our Soft Carriers also feature a 100% European Linen exterior and a 100% cotton fill.
All of our dyes are nontoxic, AZO-, phthalate- and metal-free. We do not use flame retardants.
All Solly Baby items should be washed on a cold, gentle cycle and then tumbled dry on low (with the exception of the Soft Carrier, which should be hung to dry) to maintain the durability and strength of the fabric. Avoid washing with other clothing or items that have snaps, buttons, Velcro, or zippers, which can snag the fabric or create holes. If your washing machine has an agitator, consider using a delicates bag for smaller items. Pretreat any spots with a product containing enzymes prior to drying to avoid setting the stain, and do not use bleach. Avoid clipping anything, including pacifier clips, to the fabric to avoid unintended holes. For long-term storage, place Solly Baby items in an airtight container.
Nearly all of our products are made in the U.S. using 100% certified TENCEL™ Modal fabric sourced from beech wood trees in sustainably-managed forests in Austria. We work closely with everyone involved in our supply chain and visit the factories frequently to build our relationships and observe the working conditions firsthand.
The sewing house in Los Angeles has been run by the same family for more than three generations, and the sense of community is evident the moment you walk through the door. The matriarch of the family regularly whips up baked goods for the workers to enjoy in the break room—sweet in every sense! Working with domestic suppliers allows us to provide jobs to U.S. workers, produce top-quality goods, and turn around products quickly so our shop is always well-stocked.
Our Totepacks and Soft Carriers are designed in the U.S. and produced exclusively for Solly Baby in China in collaboration with factory partners who prioritize fair and responsible working environments.

We could talk about the benefits of babywearing forever! Here are some of our favorites:
- It promotes bonding between the baby and wearer, fosters healthy attachment, and helps parents feel more in-tune with baby's cues.
- It allows you to be hands-free while keeping baby close, enabling you to fold laundry, respond to emails, care for big siblings, and more.
- It provides a womb-like environment for baby, easing their transition into the world and making them feel safe, secure, and comfortable.
- It helps soothe even the fussiest babies, especially those with reflux or gas. A pediatric study found that wearing your baby three hours a day can reduce infant crying by up to 43%!
- It can help reduce postpartum depression and boost milk supply for nursing mamas.

After exploring countless fabrics for the Solly Wrap, we chose to make it using 100% TENCEL™ Modal, and for good reason(s). It’s naturally-derived, gentle against delicate skin, breathable, lightweight, and durable…just to name a few! Learn more about why TENCEL™ Modal is our go-to fabric.
Yes! The Solly Wrap is a very breathable baby carrier made from lightweight, naturally breathable TENCEL™ Modal, designed to keep both you and baby comfortable even on the hottest days. It's widely loved (just check the reviews!) as one of the best baby carriers for hot weather thanks to its moisture-wicking, buttery-soft feel.
Yes! The wrap offers a truly universal fit for wearers of all sizes, including plus-size and petite.
Yes! The wrap is compact and lightweight by design, making it easy to take with you on-the-go and stash inside a diaper bag without taking up valuable real estate. There’s a built-in pocket at the end that allows you to quickly and easily bundle up the wrap. When you’re ready to use it, just pull it out and the fabric will naturally unwrinkle.
The Solly Wrap is certified hip-healthy by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute, which means that it’s designed in a way that supports healthy hip and spine development throughout baby’s first year and beyond. Learn more about how the Solly Wrap promotes hip health here.
New to babywearing and looking for baby wrap instructions? We have plenty of resources to help you learn how to wrap your infant. The best resource is our wrap tutorials page, where you’ll find detailed videos that provide an introduction to babywearing and walk you through everything from tying on your wrap to taking baby out, troubleshooting, and more. We also provide weekly wrap tutorials and live demonstrations over on our Instagram.
The Solly Wrap is safety-tested for babies 8 to 25 pounds, and we find that most parents use it most heavily during the first six months of baby’s life. We recommend to wear baby in it as soon as possible following birth to help ease baby’s transition to the world—a practice we call going from “womb to wrap.” Because the Solly Wrap shouldn’t touch the incision site when tied properly, it’s also one of the only types of carriers that can be worn directly following a C-section (with a medical provider's permission, of course). For more information about babywearing following a cesarean, click here. If you or baby have any other special circumstances, we recommend connecting with your medical professional prior to wearing.
Ensuring that you and baby are comfortable and safe while babywearing in the wrap is our highest priority. To start, ensure your baby falls within the safety-tested weight range for the Solly Wrap—between 8 and 25 pounds. Once you tie on, we recommend using the T.I.C.K.S acronym to ensure baby is wrapped in a safe and secure position. T for tight, I for in view at all times, C for close enough to kiss, K for keep chin off chest, and S for supported back. Read about TICKS in detail. You should also always be sure to use a wrap without holes, snags, tears, or any other damage that may compromise the integrity of the wrap.
Yes! Once you and baby have an established breastfeeding relationship and are comfortable wrapping together, a few simple adjustments can make nursing in the wrap both easy and convenient. Watch this tutorial to learn how, and feel free to email advice@sollybaby.com for additional tips or advice.
No. Wraps like ours are not designed to be worn with baby facing forward or on the wearer’s back—it puts too much pressure on baby's spine and joints and increases the risk of them falling out of the wrap. It also puts extra pressure on the wearer's back.
No. The Solly Wrap is designed for just one baby at a time. However, it is an ideal way to keep one baby close (and properly supported) while freeing up your hands to tend to the other baby. As babies get older and are sitting unassisted (typically around 6 months), it's possible to wear one baby on your front in the Solly and the second baby on your back in another carrier such as a soft-structured carrier or woven wrap. Feel free to email advice@sollybaby.com for helpful strategies for parents of multiples.
If baby starts to sink or loosen over time in your wrap, you probably need to adjust the fit. Contrary to popular belief, it doesn’t have anything to do with how tight or loose the wrap is, but whether it’s equally snug throughout. Once you tie on, you should be able to close your eyes and feel each part of the wrap (midsection, shoulder straps and the ends wrapped around your waist) touching your body with an equal amount of snugness—no part should feel especially tight or slack. Another thing that can help: Be sure the double knot is up around your natural waist, not down around your hips. Here’s a quick and easy checklist to run through each time you tie on to ensure you’re wearing baby safely.

If it seems like baby just doesn’t like being in a carrier, don’t stress. All babies are different, and some take longer to adjust to being in the wrap than others. We truly believe that our wrap is something that every baby and caretaker will love, and if one of you isn’t enjoying the experience, it’s likely that you just need to make a small adjustment or two. Your Soft Carrier Questions, Answered
Such a good question! Here are a few of its standout features:
- Solly Luxe™ Interior: As buttery-soft and breathable as our signature Solly Wrap, the luxurious lining ensures only the gentlest fabric touches your little one’s sensitive skin.
- Lightweight (approx. 1.5 lbs): Half the weight of most carriers, The Soft Carrier literally lightens your load.
- Slim Profile: No extra bulk, just the breathable support you need.
- Compact Storage: Fits in a 10” x 12” zippered storage pouch (which is included, by the way!), so you can take it with you wherever you go.
- Machine Washable: Because spills, spit up, and blowouts happen are a reality of early parenthood.
The Soft Carrier is certified for use with little ones from 10 to 45 pounds. For optimal safety and comfort, baby should also be long enough that the top panel sits at or below the bottom of their ear—with their airways above—when seated in the carrier. Typically, babies who wear size 3-month clothing or bigger fit properly in the carrier.
We recommend The Soft Carrier for babies 3 months and up whose earlobes are at or above the top panel of the carrier when seated in it. (This helps ensure their airways are clear.)
The carrier can be used for toddlers up to 45 pounds. The maximum seat width is 13.5”.
The Soft Carrier is designed to fit a range of wearers from petite to plus-size. The waistbelt adjusts to fit waist sizes from 23" to 48". A waistbelt extender is available to accommodate waist sizes up to 56".
The Soft Carrier is made for front and back carrying with baby facing in. The Soft Carrier is not a forward-facing baby carrier—and that’s by design! You can read more of our thoughts on forward-facing here.
The Soft Carrier comes with a chest clip for safe back carrying that can be conveniently secured in a hidden shoulder strap for storage. As with other carriers designed for baby to be worn on back, back carrying in The Soft Carrier requires baby to be able to sit unassisted (usually around 6 months) and takes some practice. Before trying it, we recommend that the wearer first gets comfortable using The Soft Carrier in the front carry position, and then practices back carrying in a safe space and/or with an extra set of hands for assistance.
Learn how to front carry here. Learn how to back carry here.
Our shoulder straps are designed to criss-cross when baby is being worn in the front carry position. The crossback design supports even weight distribution and avoids creating pressure points near the neck and shoulders. It also makes it easier to put on the carrier by yourself and adjust the straps.
When baby is worn in the back carry position, the attachable chest clip allows the straps to be worn in a safe and comfortable“H” style.
Our waistbelt is apron-style, so when you first buckle the carrier around your waist, it hangs down like an apron would. It’s designed with multiple layers of interfacing and stitching rather than stiff foam insert which provides plenty of support while molding comfortably to your midsection without digging in.
Yes! The seat can be easily adjusted before or after baby is placed in the carrier. Simply scrunch the fabric (no snaps or Velcro here!) until it’s the appropriate width for your baby, supporting them from knee to knee for optimal hip-safe positioning. The fully extended seat is 13.5”.
The International Hip Dysplasia Institute (IHDI) stopped offering hip-healthy certifications prior to the introduction of The Soft Carrier, so we aren’t able to obtain certification. However, hip health is one of our top priorities, and just like our Solly Wrap, The Soft Carrier follows the guidelines for supporting proper development.
The Soft Carrier isn’t reversible. It’s designed to be worn one way only—with the Solly Luxe™ interior facing in toward you and the European Linen exterior facing out. This ensures a safe, supportive, and comfortable fit for both you and baby every time.
Very! Our carrier uses a combination of three naturally breathable fabrics: European linen for the exterior shell, a TENCEL™ Modal/Spandex blend for the interior lining, and a cotton fill. We intentionally avoided bulky foam padding and mesh (which sounds breathable, but actually isn’t!) to maximize breathability and ensure a babywearing experience that can be enjoyed year-round. Which means if you’re looking for the best baby carrier for hot weather, you’re in the right place.
Yes! Because we know that spit, spills, and blowouts are a reality of early parenthood, and you need gear that can keep up.
For best results, machine wash cold, gentle cycle. Hang to dry.
Both The Wrap and The Soft Carrier are baby carriers designed to help you carry your little one with confidence.
The Wrap is designed for babies 8-25 pounds and is an ideal newborn carrier from birth up to 6 months or so. It provides a snug, cozy experience that’s reminiscent of the womb and is perfect for bonding and contact naps postpartum, as well as keeping your hands free while tending to tasks around the house.
The Soft Carrier is designed for bigger babies 10-45 pounds—usually at least 3 months of age—who are ready for a bit more support. It provides a quick on-and-off experience that makes it perfect for errand-running, park playdates, and beyond while maintaining the familiar comfort and buttery-soft feel of the Wrap.
