The Buckle Carrier is certified for use with little ones from 10 to 45 pounds. For optimal safety and comfort, baby should also be long enough that the top panel sits at or below the bottom of their ear—with their airways above—when seated in the carrier. Typically, babies who wear size 3-month clothing or bigger fit properly in the carrier.

We recommend The Buckle Carrier for babies 3 months and up whose earlobes are at or above the top panel of the carrier when seated in it. (This helps ensure their airways are clear.)

The carrier can be used for toddlers up to 45 pounds. The maximum seat width is 13”.

The Buckle Carrier is designed to fit a range of wearers from petite to plus-size. The waistbelt adjusts to fit waist sizes from 23" to 48". A waistbelt extender is available to accommodate waist sizes up to 56".

The Buckle Carrier is made for front and back carrying with baby facing in. The Soft Carrier is not a forward-facing baby carrier—and that’s by design! You can read more of our thoughts on forward-facing here.

The Buckle Carrier comes with a chest clip for safe back carrying that can be conveniently secured in a hidden shoulder strap for storage. As with other carriers designed for baby to be worn on back, back carrying in The Buckle Carrier requires baby to be able to sit unassisted (usually around 6 months) and takes some practice. Before trying it, we recommend that the wearer first gets comfortable using The Buckle Carrier in the front carry position, and then practices back carrying in a safe space and/or with an extra set of hands for assistance.

Our shoulder straps are designed to criss-cross when baby is being worn in the front carry position. The crossback design supports even weight distribution and avoids creating pressure points near the neck and shoulders. It also makes it easier to put on the carrier by yourself and adjust the straps.

When baby is worn in the back carry position, the attachable chest clip allows the straps to be worn in a safe and comfortable“H” style.

Our waistbelt is apron-style, so when you first buckle the carrier around your waist, it hangs down like an apron would. It’s designed with multiple layers of interfacing and stitching rather than stiff foam insert which provides plenty of support while molding comfortably to your midsection without digging in.

Yes! The seat can be easily adjusted before or after baby is placed in the carrier. Simply scrunch the fabric (no snaps or Velcro here!) until it’s the appropriate width for your baby, supporting them from knee to knee for optimal hip-safe positioning. The fully extended seat is 13”. 


The International Hip Dysplasia Institute (IHDI) stopped offering hip-healthy certifications prior to the introduction of The Buckle Carrier, so we aren’t able to obtain certification. However, hip health is one of our top priorities, and just like our Solly Wrap, The Buckle Carrier follows the guidelines for supporting proper development.

Very! Our carrier uses a combination of three naturally breathable fabrics: European linen for the exterior shell, a TENCEL™ Modal/Spandex blend for the interior lining, and a cotton fill. We intentionally avoided bulky foam padding and mesh (which sounds breathable, but actually isn’t!) to maximize breathability and ensure a babywearing experience that can be enjoyed year-round. Which means if you’re looking for the best baby carrier for hot weather, you’re in the right place.

The Wrap is designed for babies 8-25 pounds and is an ideal newborn carrier from birth up to 6 months or so. The Buckle Carrier is designed for bigger babies 10-45 pounds—usually at least 3 months of age—who are ready for a bit more support.
