No! Our carriers are designed with an apron-style waist, which may feel counterintuitive at first, but will make perfect sense after you’ve done it once. 

Simply look for the the tag that says, “Place this side against your natural waist”—and then do just that. When you buckle the carrier around your waist, it’ll be hanging down in front of you with the soft side facing out. From there, place baby against your chest, pull the carrier up around them (that apron-style design makes a nice little seat!), and buckle them on. Easy-peasy!

One of the most common culprits of discomfort is a too-high ‘X’ on your back. As you’re putting the carrier on and adjusting the straps behind you, give them a tug downward before crossing them over. This will help ensure the ‘X’ is at or below your shoulder blades for better weight distribution and a more comfortable carrier.

Also check that the waistbelt is buckled around your natural waist, not your hips. This helps create an ergonomic seat for baby, which allows a more comfortable carry for you.

Around here, we like to advise: “Bum in the bucket!” In other (less fun to say) words, baby’s bum should be comfortably settled into the natural seat created when the carrier is pulled up around them. When placing baby in the carrier, ensure they’re centered in an upright position with their belly against the waistbelt and their bum just above where the panel and waistbelt meet. When they’re too high on your waist, it can create a “flat seat” that’s less supportive and comfortable for either of you.
