Expecting a fall or winter baby? Nothing makes the season cozier than spending it with a precious new babe wrapped against your chest. As temperatures drop and we start swapping summer dresses and airy blouses for cozy knits and puffy jackets, we’re sharing five tips for layered dressing while babywearing.
1. Start with a good base.
Think: a lightweight long-sleeve t-shirt or flannel. Something that will keep you warm, but that isn’t too heavy or difficult to layer on top of. Button-ups are particularly great if you’re breastfeeding and want to nurse while wearing your wrap.
2. Stick to loose-fitting cardigan-style sweaters.
That oversized cardigan you love? It’s the perfect transitional piece for summer-to-fall and works great for throwing on over your base-layer + wrap combo. Throw it on for chilly morning walks and take it off later in the day when things heat up.
3. Choose a double-knit wrap.
Even better than a sweater? Our collection of double-knit wraps. Designed with two layers of our signature-soft TENCEL™ Modal fabric in a classic houndstooth pattern, they’re a cold-weather essential. It’s the perfect excuse to get yourself a second wrap.
4. Skip the scarf.
It’s important to keep baby's air passageways clear while wearing your wrap, and with baby wrapped snug against your chest, you won’t need the extra warmth from a scarf. If you’re wanting to accessorize, consider opting for a beanie instead. Bonus: It’s a great way to hide day three (or four) hair—IYKYK.
5. Top it off with an oversized coat.
Oversized is the key word here. You want something that easily fits around you and baby so that nothing feels tight or restricted. You can even wear a maternity or men’s jacket to zip around both of you—just stop zipping a little more than halfway up (remember, clear airways!). You can also purchase a coat designed specifically for babywearing.
