Let’s start with a quick introduction. Tell us the facts.
Name: Aysia Greathouse
Children: Raya (2 months)
Location: Carlsbad, CA
Occupation: Photographer
How did you get connected with Solly?
Instagram!
What’s a time in the last week when your heart has felt full?
Watching Raya really start to smile more when I interact with her. She looks so happy with her big gummy smile. She loves to play with my hair and hear our voices.
Favorite thing about your Solly Wrap?
That it’s breathable!! It’s been very hot but Raya loves to be on me, so being able to wear her on our walks to the beach and back has been a game changer.
How do you define your role as a mother?
I want to forever be her safest place. I want to make sure she knows she is always loved no matter what. I want to encourage her and support her and provide a solid foundation for her to grow up into a confident, kind, and intelligent woman. I can’t wait to give her the kind of childhood she remembers when she’s older and tells her kids stories about.
What’s something about motherhood that has surprised you?
Just the realization that nothing else in the world matters remotely as much as this little human I get to care for. Truly the most wild feeling ever that come over me those first few days after her birth.
When do you feel at your best as a mom?
When I’m out and about with her, living life and bringing her along for the ride. She loves to be outside and so do I!
As a photographer, what are three must-take photos of a newborn that every mom should capture in your opinion?
Three must-take photos for me were:
1. Photos of Raya in mine + her dad's baby clothes. Our moms gave us some of our old baby clothes and watching her grow into and out of them has been sweet.
2. Photos of her first bath at home. Something about her being all wet and at peace feeling the warm water poured over her was so special.
3. The third may be more specific to us, but a photo of us dipping her toes in the ocean for the first time was a must!!
Walk us through a typical day in your life.
Usually pretty chill! We wake up and hang out for a bit, I usually make breakfast while she hangs out in her Solly Wrap. Then we go for a walk or drive to get out of the house for a few hours. She will usually sleep or eat. We’re pretty unscheduled and intuitive, so she has learned to go with the flow I think. After that we come home and reset a bit before going out for the sunset either just as a little family of three or with friends at the beach.
What would you do with an extra hour in the day (other than sleep)?
Probably watch a show or read!! I haven’t had much time for that lately but that’s okay.
First place you took baby?
For a walk around the neighborhood and down to the beach. It’s about a mile so it was our go-to way to get out of the house those first few weeks.
What’s something you loved to do before baby that you still do or would like to start up again?
Sewing!! I love to make and design clothes for myself mainly but for my sister too.
Amazing! What ’s your favorite piece you’ve ever made/designed?
Love designing tops and dresses!! I’ve posted a few favs over on my @terrajuna account.
First thing you ate after giving birth?
Sushi!!!!!! 12 salmon nigiri to be specific.
What’s something about motherhood that you wish people talked about more?
The weird things newborns do. I was shocked to say the least. To see my Google search history those first two weeks would be a comedy show now.
Tell us about your journey to motherhood.
I think so much less about myself now. I love my girl and feel so fulfilled being what and who she needs.
What has the fourth trimester been like for you so far?
So far it has been a journey! I feel no more pain, and I’m just working on feeling stronger. I’ve started Pilates back up, and walking and light running. It feels amazing to be active!
Favorite piece of advice you’ve received about motherhood?
Let it change you.
Words of wisdom would you share with other moms?
They will only need you so much for so long. Soak it up. All the contact naps, even if that’s the only way they’ll sleep. Soon they’ll be big and you’ll wish you could feel their heartbeat right on top of yours while they dream.
What are three things in your motherhood starter pack?
- A good carrier
- A stroller they can sleep in
- And a reliable mobile-style pump!!
What Solly pieces(s) do you have? What’s on your wishlist?
I have a few wraps, sleepers, and swaddles. I’d love to try one of the summer sets!
